I just came across this testing page: SlickSpeed Selectors Test. I am also testing the Firefox plugin Deepest Sender and using it to blog about it directly from my Firefox browser. It’s the first tome, so it’ll be interesting to see how this turns out.

Fantastic mootools-based slideshow class

Electricprism.com just released a stunning javascript class for displaying image slideshows, using the mootools library. I prefer letting this beauty speak for itself, but I have to list up a few goodies: Pan, zoom, wipe, brush, Ken Burns effect, Robert Penner easing, and more… Really impressive!

Joomla 1.5 to include MooTools

Judging by the latest logs from the SVN repository, Joomla 1.5 will include MooTools in its 1.5 release…

Joomla 1.5, revision 6400 (a milestone in the making) has the following log entry: “JavaScript conversion to Mootools WIP”. (WIP = Work In Progress). Changed files in this revision includes lots of Joomla JS files, the khepri template, the contact component and the administrators media manager, so I think it is safe to say that MooTools will be a significant part of Joomla in the near future.

Playing around with MooTools

Have put some time into learning a bit more JavaScript lately, closely related to exploring MooTools. I have put together a couple of effect examples. The code is messy, yeah, and it is not intended for production sites yet, but it works.

The advantage of using JavaScript, with or without libraries like MooTools and their likes, is that if someone disables JavaScript, or some ancient browser does not understand the script, the content is still displayed in a readable fashion. Not optimal, but readable still. Try turning off JavaScript in your browser and you’ll see what I mean.
