More than one sub per position

more substitutions

One thing that’s frustrated me before is the fact that, if you suffer more than one injury in a particular area, the second substitute who comes in is probably no good for the position. Ending up with a forward in central defence, or a defender sitting in the inner-midfield position can really hurt a team’s performance, and piles insult on top of injury.

The team has already suffered two injuries that affect that role on the field, and now they’re having to make do with a poor player occupying their position, leaving a gaping hole in their layout. Worse still, if a player in the second substitute’s intended position then becomes injured, you end up replacing HIM with an out-of-position player too, because his true substitute was already patching another hole.

I’d like to see a feature where you can define MORE than one substitute for each field position. I could see doing this a few different ways, but after thinking about them, my favourite is selecting a limited list of substitutes - up to eight subs, for example - then selecting three of them in order to act as the substitutes in each position. In this system, players with lower skills spread in many areas would also become very useful substitutes, capable of acting as a second- or third-place substitute in more than one field position, adding some extra value to their versatility.
