Pitch conditions

Why not introduce pitch conditions? Higher level teams could have nice, smooth pitches, lower level teams could have pitches that are more bumpy and rough. Pitch conditions could affect matches and different players in different ways, and pitch maintenance could be part of the economy as well. It sounds confusing, but in real life it’s the same: Low level teams have fields best suited for groing potatoes and corn, high level teams have fields usable for playing golf.
Why add pitch conditions?
- Make the game more realistic: Real world games are definitely affected by pitch conditions.
- Player specialties and weather would influence a game more. Right now they aren’t really that important.
Pitch conditions could be separated into levels from disastrous to excellent, and pitch maintenance could be done with hiring specialist groundkeepers, like with spokesmen and doctors.
What would/could be affected?
- Techical players would perform worse, powerful players perform better. Effects could have an even higher impact in sunny/rainy weather, making these specialties more attractive.
- Magnificent+ players could perform worse on a poor field than on an excellent one, so when playing the first round in a cup, the 6th division team would have a home field advantage over their 1st division opponents, because of their higher experience with poor fields.
- New team variable could be introduced: Pitch experience, similar to formation experience, where the team gets experience in playing on level 1-4 pitches. (level 1 = disastrous and wretched pitches, level 2 = poor and weak pitches, etc)
- Special events related to the pitch could be added. Goals, injuries, etc.
- Pressing could be easier on a low level pitch.
- Low level pitches could require a better stamina
- Team spirit could be affected, for example when high level primadonna players start whining and blaming their poor performance on the lousy pitch conditions.
What other benefits could this have?
- Could effect farming teams a bit: Divine players won’t perform as well on bad pitches, their form could get worse and they could get injured more often than usual.
- Instead of letting pitch conditions be related to how many specialist groundsmen you hire, it could be division related, making things worse for teams with great players that deliberately not promote to higher divisions.
