Improving the simple transfer system

Hattrick is a great game. However, I feel the transfer system is far too simplistic. I have many ideas as to how to imporove this, and I have grouped them into to groups: Those changes that are small and relatively easy to implement (evolutionary), and those who require more effort (revolutionary). Some ideas in the two groups exclude each other, so not all ideas are implementable together.
Evolutionary ideas:
- One should be able to set the deadline for players who are being sold manually - at least the time of day. If I’m online at 3 am on Saturday, I can’t put anyone up for sale because hardly anyone is online at 3 am on Tuesday. I should be able to set the deadline at (for instance) 4 pm in stead.
(editors note: See also related idea “Choose transfer deadline“) - Bidders should be able to give a maximum bid rather than an absolute bid and bids should go up as two or more bidders have high highest bids. Say a player is on the marked for 100 000 and one bidder bids a max of 300 000. The current bid is now at 100 000. I bid a max of 500 000. I now have the maximum bid of 310 000 (10 000 being the bid raise). If someone then bids 400 000 max, I still have the bid at 410 000. This will make it more difficult to buy a player expensively just to move money around.
(editors note: See also related idea “eBay auction style“) - In conjunction with the previous idea, there should be a maximum starting price for a player. The TSI seems to be a rather untrustworthy value in the later seasons, but some formula will give an indication of an OK price. Multiply that by a number (2? 4? 6?), and that is your maximum start price.
Revolutionary ideas:
- There should be no deadlines for transfers at all - just players who are on the transfer list and those who aren’t. Those who are on the transfer list have a minimum price, and you can make an offer. This offer must be larger than the minumum price, and the highest current offer.
- Bids should have a deadline - no shorter than 24 hours. Longer lasting offers can be canceled with 24 hours notice. While the bid stands, the seller can accept or reject the bid. If the seller does nothing, the bid is automatically rejected.
- Bids should be more than just a price. I will consist of (Items marked * are optional):
- A price
- A salary
- * How much of the next sale of the player will go to the previous club
- * Bonuses for matches played, goals scored, internationals played etc.
- * Player in trade
As many of you probably have guessed, the inspiration for much if these ideas is good old Championship Manager. Some of you may say Hattrick isn’t CM, and that this is to much details. I don’t agree. This is still simpler than CM and it would give a lot of extra depth to the game.
